Speedcars Return To Speedway City
Phil Michell posted Wednesday February 3, 2010.

This Saturday night Round 7 of the Triple X Speedcar Super Series is set to blast off at Speedway City with some of Australia’s leading drivers and a New Zealander set to take on the 430 metre clay way. The field for the Martelco Equipment Hire event of course boasts current Series leader Nathan Smee along with the likes of three time Champion and current Series runner-up Mark Brown, Troy Jenkins, Harley Bishop, Scott Glazebrook, Grant Draney and New Zealander Brad Mosen, who will drive the immaculate #29 Spike for Queensland car owner Jack Berry.

This season has proven to be one of the most hotly contested series for many years as going into the seventh round five drivers have greeted the chequered flag first with Smee being the only driver to have won multiple rounds (2). The other 2009/10 series round winner’s who will be in action this weekend at Speedway City are Bishop, Jenkins and Brown.

Another driver who you can expect to be near the front this weekend is Western Australian Keith “Spanner Man” Giles, who will once again pilot the Wayne Cover #76 Spike. Although he is yet to win a round of the Speedcar Super Series he was victorious at the Australian Speedcar Grand Prix at Avalon earlier this season.

In addition to the interstate line-up is a strong local contingent including John McKay, who drove his Mopar powered Stealth to his first podium result in round 5 at Maryborough in Queensland. McKay won’t be the only local to keep an eye on as Ben Dillon, Strathalbyn’s Tim Crouch, Matthew Coombe and rookie Ben Hall will all be out to impress in front of their home crowd.

The format for the Speedcars will include time trials, two rounds of heats with the fastest cars coming from the back, a pole shuffle for the top eight drivers and the all important 30 lap A-main.
