Mosen Cool As Ice At Speedway City
Phil Michell posted Sunday February 7, 2010.

Last night Auckland based speedster Brad Mosen showed he is one of the brightest up and coming talents outside of the USA by dominating round 7 of the Triple X Speedcar Super Series at Speedway City. The 22 year old struggled a little in time trials but he bounced back in impressive fashion with two heat victories, a win in the top 8 pole shuffle before leading all 30 laps of the Martelco Equipment Hire supported main event.

“It’s always fun racing in Australia. To drive a car that good is always a pleasure. You always have to be on the top of your game to race against these guys so it is great to be able to win. More importantly it is good for Jack (Berry) and the guys to get a bit of confidence leading into the Australian Championship at Avalon. I really must thank Jack for bringing me out here, it was a privilege to race the Polarice car tonight” added the 2010 Chilli Bowl Rookie of the Year on the podium.

Second across the line was defending series Champion Mark Brown with Sydney’s Nathan Smee completing the top three in the seventeen car field. Brown’s runner-up position was good enough to wrestle the points lead away from Smee by a mere 5 points. Fourth place in the entertaining final was Victorian Harley Bishop with Troy Jenkins, Peter Ghent Jr, Brock Hallett and Keith Giles, who was forced into his back-up car following hot laps, completed the top eight.

The hard luck story of the night was Western Australia’s Scott Glazebrook who was robbed of a top three result after his Fox Racing Spike / Esslinger combination grinded to a halt in turn four bringing out the only caution of the event on lap 28.

Earlier in the night local resident John McKay broke though for his maiden SSS Quick Time award as he stopped the clock with a lap of 14.833 seconds in his Mopar powered Stealth. Later the heat races were secured by Mosen (2), Ben Dillon and Ghent Jr while Mosen was victorious in the pole shuffle, which was highlighted by the duel for position seven between Grant Draney and Glazebrook, with Glazebrook getting the nod by a mere .008 of a second.

The 360ci Sprintcars were also on the program with 17 cars in attendance as they contested round 8 of the Revolution Racegear 360ci Sprintcar Track Championship. Defending Champion Mark Caruso proved to be too strong for his competition taking out his first feature race of the year defeating Adam Currie and Chad Ely. Fourth in the final went to Jamie Hendry, who had his best run of the current season, with Michael Burford, Jason McIver, who rolled his XXX on lap four, Mark Buford and Darryl Wright rounding out the top eight.

Unfortunately the feature event was cut short after pole sitter Josh Ruhs slammed the wall in turn three with two laps remaining. The heat wins were shared between Currie, Ruhs, Caruso and McIver.

The Wingless Sprints were also in action with a healthy field on hand but it was Scott Bogucki who emerged victorious in the Protec Paints final ahead of Brendan Guerin, Keke Falland and Darryl Sloan.
