Southern Showdown Shapes Up To Be A Cracker...
Chris Brooks posted Tuesday February 16, 2010.

The 2010 Southern Showdown for Formula 500s is shaping up to be a cracker with $1000 to win for first place and with entries open until Friday afternoon, the list of entries is expected to grow.

Heading up the local favourites is the Whyalla flyer, Angelo Karoussis driving the number 26, Stallard R6. This years rookie of the year has made a huge impression since stepping up from the junior ranks and goes into the event in red hot form after taking the win on the weekend at the 'King of the Bridge' at Murray Bridge.

Finishing second on the weekend was "The Grey Ghost", Kym Gower in the number 19 Hollingsworth powered PMP Chassis. Gower has been super quick all year including the last time the flying formula 500s visited the Speedway City clay for the Christmas Cup in December. Gower will be looking for a better finish after exiting that meeting after completing a series of wild flips.

"The excitement Machine" Steve James will return to his home track looking for a better finish after also flipping out of the Christmas Cup, the last time he was at Speedway City. Since then, James has been developing his new Dutchman Performance R6 engine and had a pretty solid night at the bridge last weekend.

Victoria have confirmed so far that they will send three of their best cars to take on the locals. Heading the charge will be Leigh Van Ginneken in his Dutchman Performance XXX chassis. Van Ginneken was arguably the quickest car on the night last weekend at the Bridge but came together with Gower on the opening lap and was forced to the rear of the field, where he then charged through to take fourth.

Also crossing the border is the RTS factory duo of Jock Baker and Ash Hicks. Baker also in fine form after finishing third on the weekend behind Gower and Karoussis.

Spicing the night up will be the Knuckles Logistics Pole Shuffle, with the top 6 point scorers battling it out for pole. The driver who wins the shuffle will take home an extra $100 thanks to Knuckles Logistics.

Anyone wishing to enter can do so by calling Chris Brooks on 0433 856 814 or by emailing c.brooks@eoc.com.au
