Stewart Wins Final Hit Out Before Aussie Title
Phil Michell posted Monday February 22, 2010.

Veteran Super Sedan campaigner Steve Stewart turned back the clock last Saturday night as he completely dominated round 4 of the JD Couriers Super Sedan Track Championship at Speedway City. The former six times South Australian Champion started the 20 lap final from the outside of the front row and he was never headed in the event crossing the line comfortably ahead of current Track Champion Shane Best.

Third place went to former Australian Champion Chris Blunden who just edged out a hard charging Steve Vaughan, who made a final corner lunge but he came up a bumper length short. Fifth place in the final went to Trevor Ware with Gil Worthley, Dan Miller, Western Australian Frank Does, Bill Miller and Graham Stewart rounding out the finishers in the 14 car field.

The opening lap of the final proved to be a controversial one as pole sitter Best was given a reprieve after spinning his Pontiac in turn two. Once the yellow lights were illuminated for the stoppage it was deemed that third highest qualifier Tony Howlett had made contact with the rear quarter panel of Best’s machine therefore Howlett was sent to the rear on the restart.

Earlier Heat victories went the way of Blunden, former Western Australian Champion Does and Best.

The next Super Sedan event at Speedway City will be one not to miss as the venue hosts the 2010 Hotline 40 Auto Parts Australian Championship between the 3rd and 6th of March. The event has attracted an official entry list of 61 drivers from around Australia including 15 from the host state, 12 Tasmanians, 10 from Victoria and Queensland, 9 from the West and 5 from New South Wales.
