Universal Metal Cleaners Wingless Sprints Track Championship...
James Baker posted Friday July 16, 2010.

Speedway City is pleased to announce the inaugural Universal Metal Cleaners Wingless Sprints Track Championship. The series will be held over 6 rounds and is another major boost for the growing class. Speedway City now offers drivers and fans a Track Championship for each of the 3 Sprintcar classes, from Open to 360 and now Wingless Sprints.

Sprintcars Australia Operations Manager Ross Allen says Speedway City has contributed greatly to Sprintcar racing in Australia. "The Sprintcar Control Council of Australia (SCCA) continues to work on the future of its categories and the support of Speedway City, under the management of Wendy Turner, is playing a significant role in that area.

"Speedway City's Open Sprintcar Track Championship and 360ci Sprintcar Track Championship have contributed immensely and now with the introduction of the Universal Metal Cleaners Wingless Sprints Track Championship, the divisions are being given the opportunity for regular competition at an Australian capital city venue.

"The SCCA was appointed as the peak body in the affiliation of the Wingless Sprints category and having worked collaboratively to establish the national Australian Wingless Sprint Racing Inc (AWSR) is very proud of the fact that the administration now stands alone in their day-to-day operation. The SCCA is also extremely pleased with the growth of the category and the aim of maintaining affordability has played a key role.

“Wendy Turner is setting a benchmark in work with speedway categories - in this case the Wingless Sprints - in the best interest of all parties. The SCCA acknowledges her efforts and looks forward to a highly competitive Universal Metal Cleaners Wingless Sprints Track Championship at Speedway City."

South Australian Wingless Sprints president Darryl Bottoms says its fantastic news for the class. “All of our drivers are excited to being doing 6 meetings and the Universal Metal Cleaners Track Championship at Speedway City. Considering we have gone from only 3 cars two-and-a-half years ago to over 35 and 3 meetings at Wendy’s last year to 6 is just fantastic for our class.

"To race in front of the crowd that Wendy draws is fantastic and hopefully more people will join the division once they see us race. Last year a Rookie set a new 15-lap track record at the final meeting with the time equivalent to a Super Sedan, so they are not slow for a stock standard V6 Commodore motor. It has been great to work with Wendy and our drivers are over the moon about having so many meetings at Speedway City."

The Championship will be spread over the entire season with a round almost every month from October to April. Only two drivers, Keke Falland and Todd Wigzell, hold all the track records at Speedway City and are the favourites to take out the series however with over 35 registered cars, including former Australian Champion Rory Button, they won't have things all their own way. Watch the battle for supremacy live at Speedway City this season.
