South Australian 410 Sprintcar racing is bracing itself for the most exciting local season in recent memory, with news that a brand new twelve round state series will take place from this coming season.
In a joint venture between Speedway City and Murray Bridge Speedway and with support from Tolmer Speedway Bordertown and the Sprintcar Competitors of SA club, the series will pay a $20,000 pointscore at series end, including $5,000 to the winner.
"This will provide a great injection to South Australian Sprintcar racing," commented Speedway City Promoter Wendy Turner.
"Local racing has needed a series similar to the AHG in WA and the SRA in Victoria and we are pleased to now be in a position to make it happen."
The series name will be determined as negotiations continue with a prospective naming right's sponsor, and official logos and other marketing initiatives will then follow.
The series will comprise all non-World Series Sprintcar races at Speedway City (seven), Murray Bridge (four) and Bordertown (one), beginning with the Bill Wigzell Battle of the Bridge on October 18.
The series will also include the Sprintcar Masters, State Title, Jack Daniels Nationals & 40 Lap Marathon amongst others, and will end with a new event, the Grand Final at Speedway City on April 18.
"We believe that by packaging all of our combined races together, it will provide considerable promotional and marketing opportunities," said Murray Bridge Manager Tim McAvaney.
"The value in this concept has been proven in other states and we know this is what is required to give local racing the boost it needs."
"We have based the plans on being a sustainable product going forward. The series will stand up financially with track, driver and industry support and any direct cash sponsorship and contingency sponsorship that we may now be able to secure, will see the driver prizes grow. All proceeds will benefit the drivers who support the series."
"We will also continue with our local tyre rule, with monies raised contributing to the pointscore."
"Therefore the pointfund we can announce is the guaranteed minimum that we can confirm at this stage."
Drivers will be offered contracts to confirm their intent to support the series and be eligible for the pointscore.
Each contracted driver is guaranteed a minimum of $800 at the completion of the series, irrespective of the number of contracted drivers.
The World of Outlaw point structure will be adopted to ensure a close series and to encourage drivers to attend all rounds.
The tracks will continue to be responsible for the nightly race promotion, individual nominations and prizemoney, with each track contributing funds to the pointscore and series promotion.
Contracted drivers will be required to pay a contract fee to confirm their commitment, which will also include driver entry to all twelve rounds.
The series will officially be launched at the Royal Adelaide Show promotion on Sunday September 14, while further details of the series being made available in the coming weeks.
A driver information pack will be available in the coming days, and Driver Expressions of Interest then called for.
For further Information, please contact Murray Bridge Speedway Manager Tim McAvaney on 08 8532 1150. Office hours: Monday, Thursday & Friday 10am to 4pm, Tuesday 1pm to 4pm.
