Johnson Set For Double Duty
Speedway City posted Thursday January 10, 2008.

Nominations have been coming in steadily over the past few days for the 2008 Protec Paints South Australian Sprintcar Championships at Speedway City with the big surprise being the entry of American Jason Johnson. In what should be a huge boost for the January 19 event Johnson will buckle up in not one but two Superloc Eagles as he attempts to make history by winning both the 410 and 360ci State Titles on the same night.

This will be the second time that Johnson has competed in the South Australian Championship with the Louisiana native finishing on the podium of the Open Title in 2004.

Johnson will of course go into the Championships as the favourite for both feature events having had a tremendous run of late, which included four World Series Sprintcar A-mains in succession, the second of these secured at Speedway City on Boxing Day. With his form in the 410ci car already proven it will be interesting to see how he, and the Disbury Family Racing Team, adapt to the SCCA spec 360ci Sprintcar.

Johnson is no stranger to 360ci competition as he regularly competes in the smaller engine class behind the wheel of "The Shop” #41 in the United States but the weight and engine specs in Australia are quite different to those in the USA.

At this stage the number of the 360 is yet to be finalised but it is believed that the 360ci car will be S5, while the 410ci Eagle will continue to carry US5 on the tail tank. So with both cars expected to look identical, with the same number, let’s hope that Jason actually buckles up in the right machine.

So if you want to see Jason Johnson in action one more time at Speedway City this summer make sure that you are trackside on January 19 for the South Australian Sprintcar Championships.
