Track Championship Battles Heat Up!
Paris Charles posted Tuesday November 23, 2010.
They say 'there is a first time for everything,' well this could not could not be any closer to the truth for Brad Keller (410 Sprintcars) and Chad Ely (360 Sprintcars). Both of these competitors notched up career maiden victories at Adelaide's Speedway City in the third round of the Revolution Racegear Sprintcar Track Championship Series which has produced a total of six different winners from the six features contested to date.
With a Feature race win apiece; Matt Egel and Jamie Cobby looked set to continue their run of good form as the duo lined up on the front row to duke it out over 25-laps. After several false starts Cobby got the jump and powered to a commanding race lead. Egel soon retired with a blown radiator hose in a race that was riddled with some big crashes including one that ended the strong run of Cobby.
While trying to chase down Keller, (who had passed him in lapped traffic) Cobby's steering box broke while at top speed, sending the car thumping into the pit gate and into a series of violent rolls as the car quickly tore apart. Not only did it destroy the Eagle chassis but it also smashed the pit return gate rendering it useless for the rest of the evening.
From there on Keller held the lead to claim maximum points for the victory but also the lead in the track series after finishing the prior two events with creditable placings towards the pointy end of the field. Following Brad across the line was defending series champion Luke Dillon and Victorian Ryan Davis who found an instant liking to the Adelaide venue with a well driven third placing upon venue debut.
Chad Ely also claimed the biggest win of his career to date, taking victory in the 20-lap Feature. Untroubled with clear track a head Ely found the fast line and bolted to the finish in a free flowing event. Following him to the line was Sprintcar rookie Brendan Quinn in just his third ever feature event to become the runner up over Shane Hendry who now has a solid points lead with three straight podiums from the first three rounds.
AMCA Nationals and Australian Wingless Sprints, each contested round two of their respective track championship series'. David Hartman chalked up his maiden feature race victory in the Zoro Signs AMCA Series. Runner up was last start winner Michael Miller and rounding out the podium was Maris Valodze.
Third generation speedster Todd Wigzell proved he is a dominant force to claim back to back feature events and open a sizeable gap over his rivals in the points score of the Universal Metal Cleaners Track Championship Series for the Wingless Sprint brigade. Keke Felland edged out the fast finishing Cory Hodgson for third.
Round four of the Revolution Racegear Speedway City Track Championship Series will fire up on Saturday 4th of December. The Super Sedans will also be back in the limelight when they fire up for the third round of the JD Couriers Super Sedan Series along with the Formula 500 Christmas Cup which will be well supported by the Street Stocks and another thrills n’ spills Ramp Jump Race.
